Rams hold off Bobcats

SAN ANTONIO — The Edinburg High Bobcats will have to stomach essentially giving away Saturday night’s area round game to Del Rio for the rest of the offseason.

The Bobcats held on for as long as they could despite five turnovers before the Rams finally put the game away late, scoring 14 points off of those errors in a 22-12 victory at Alamo Stadium in San Antonio.

Edinburg High looks for its second upset of postseason

SAN ANTONIO — Last week, the Edinburg High Bobcats showed exactly why games are won on the field and not through any kind of verbal engagement. Outside of the Bobcats community, very few if not any thought Edinburg could pull off what some were calling the improbable.

All signs just seemed to be pointing in Brownsville Hanna’s direction. The Golden Eagles had everyone convinced they would roll by after winning nine straight en route to the District 32-5A crown.

Del Rio eliminates Donna, looks ahead to Edinburg High

LAREDO — Del Rio’s big-play game in the first half and all-around tough defense was plenty enough to beat Donna 31-7 in a Class 5A Division I bi-district playoff on Saturday at the Student Activity Complex. It was the Rams’ first playoff win since 1971.

Del Rio (9-2) will face Edinburg High (6-5) in the area round at 6 p.m. Saturday at Alamo Stadium in San Antonio.
