Rivals Hanna, Pace collide for 32-5A title

Of the five Brownsville schools, Hanna and Pace own the most heated and bitter rivalry in the city.

Mix in a district title and city championship, and there is enough elements to make an action-packed movie. That drama will unfold as the Golden Eagles collide with the Vikings in the regular-season finale on Thursday night at Sams Stadium.

Defense allows Brownsville Pace to edge San Benito

Pace’s defense can flex its muscles.

The Vikings’ defense held San Benito to only seven points in the second half and stopped San Benito’s Brandon Marquez on the Greyhounds’ final drive, giving Pace a thrilling 33-28 victory Saturday night at Sams Stadium.

Pace’s win gives the Vikings a chance to claim a piece of the District 32-5A title when they play the Hanna Golden Eagles on Thursday.

Pace, San Benito seek to stay in title hunt

Pace and San Benito are itching to get back on the gridiron for different reasons.

The Vikings are looking to get back into the winner’s circle after suffering their first district loss, AND the Greyhounds want to extend their victory streak to five games as the district rivals clash Saturday night at Sams Stadium.

"We were very disappointed after last week’s loss to Los Fresnos," Pace coach Rene Medrano said. "We wanted to get back on the field as soon as we stepped off it last week. San Benito is a good football team, and we’re going to have to play very well."

Defense guides Falcons past Pace

There have been some question marks about the Los Fresnos defense this season, but the Falcons delivered their best performance of the season against Pace.

Los Fresnos forced four turnovers and held Pace to 223 yards of offense while Eric Castillo ran for three touchdowns as the Falcons dominated the Vikings 35-13 on Saturday night at Sams Stadium.

"Tonight we played with that intensity and fire we’ve been looking for all year," Los Fresnos coach Scott Ford said. "I think circumstance can motivate sometimes more than a coach, so I’m proud of the kids."
