No. 2 Sharyland cruises past struggling La Joya High

MISSION — The Sharyland Rattlers made quick work of the La Joya Coyotes on Friday night steamrolling through the Coyotes for a 63-7 victory at Rattler Stadium to remain one of only four unbeaten squads in the Rio Grande Valley.

Pre-game chatter amongst Sharyland (8-0, 5-0) coaches mentioned talk of a no-nonsense “home before supper” attitude for Friday night’s game and the players on the field seemed to echo that sentiment, playing a mostly mistake-free football game that took just over two hours to play.

Sharyland tops RGC in wild 30-5A affair

RIO GRANDE CITY — Sharyland stands alone.

Third-ranked Sharyland defeated Rio Grande City 49-33 on Friday at Joe R. Sanchez to improve to 6-0 and, more importantly, 3-0 in District 30-5A where it is the only team without a league loss.

An RGC win would have thrown the district standings into chaos with five teams with one loss but it could not win the offensive showdown with Sharyland in a sometimes testy and sloppy game.

Rattlers, Bulldogs clash in key tilt

MISSION — Sharyland and McAllen High seem really happy about playing each other.

The word “excited” was used an ample number of times in describing their feelings about their District 30-5A clash at 7:30 tonight at Rattler Stadium.

One would assume that anyone in competitive sports lives for games like this.

“Everyone just gets fired up for practice,” Rattlers wide receiver Chris Zuniga said. “This whole week everyone has been, ‘This is McHi week so let’s go get them.’”
