This time, Tigers' late heroics fall short against Sandcrabs

KINGSVILLE — Mercedes head coach Mike Uribe stood on the 20-yard line of the south end of Javelina Stadium on Saturday and preached family values.

His team, muddied and tired, and some even crying, listened attentively as Uribe talked about life after football, the importance of family, brotherhood and most importantly the importance of being a man.

Uribe’s talk was like a sermon. And it was a wonderful speech.

Just not the one Uribe wanted to make this early in the postseason.

AREA ROUND GAME DAY PREP MATERIAL

Mr. Pregame tackles the area round playoffs

With seven Valley teams left in the playoffs this week there was some talk around the office.

Many believed that six Valley teams would still be alive after this week, a very large number for this time of year. But there was also some thought that this was pretty much the end for Valley football — save the Sharyland-Edinburg North game, of course.

I don’t subscribe to either approach, but rather believe that there will be some Valley squads playing next week.

Here’s the way I see Round 2 going this week:
